The mountain burnet, or Scotch burnet, is a rare species of moth which only found in three 10km squares in the UK.
These are all located around Braemar, particularly in the higher montane zone. In recent years counts have been undertaken to establish numbers with Culardoch on Invercauld a particularly favoured site- this year 1,391 mountain burnet moths were counted there on just one day!
